HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Department of Research, Extension and Development evolved from separate Committees of Research and Extension of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1972. It was strengthened with the establishment of the Palawan Agricultural Research Center (PARC) and became one division. Being two of the four main functions of a higher education institution, it was separated into two departments by virtue of Board Resolution No. 26 s. 1993, namely: the Department of Research and Development and the Department of Extension, Non-formal and Livelihood Education and Cultural Minority Services. In 1999, it was started to be called as Department of Research, Extension and Development, but the two departments were transferred to the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs in 2004. In 2006, research and extension were again placed under a new department, the Research, Extension and Development Department through BOR Resolution No. 18., and on June 5, 2009, it was renamed as Department of Research and Development/Extension through Board Resolution No. 240 s.2009.
